Accomplishments

Male and Female Champions of GCBSs (1982-2007)

There are 119 swimmers (2.5% of all finishers) who completed 10 or more GCBSs; only 30 of them completed 15 or more events.  Upon the 10th completion, 15th completion, or the 20th completion, swimmers receives a special "longevity" award from the Bay Swim Director to commemorate their endurance and commitment to the event.  Information about these awards is available here.

* Earley, the Bay Swim founder, also finished a solo swim on June 14, 1992 (the day of the canceled Hanks event); Brian's name was inadvertently omitted from the 1989 GCBS results.

** In 1993, the GCBS participant's minimum age requirement was increased to 15 years.   Hence, these "records" will likely remain unbroken.  In the 1993-2007 events, 46 15-year-olds have finished the event.  Born on June 13, 1987, David Collier swam two GCBSs as a 15-year old (16JUN02 and 08JUN03), the first one just 3 days after turning 15.  Previously (1986-1991), 42 15-year-olds, 25 14-year-olds, 9 13-year-olds, and the three 12-year-olds (shown above) finished a Bay Swim.  In 1992, two 16-year-olds were among the 48 finishers!  In 1985, Christopher Ritter won the Hanks-run Bay Swim shortly after turning 14.
